by Lascelles Abercrombie (Performed by John Denver)
It was 1972 and the Vietnam War was just beginning to wind down. We attended a John Denver concert at ASU in Tempe. Toward the end, he recited this Lascelles Abercrombie poem. The crowd sat in rapt silence as he finished. After a long pause you could hear people start breathing again. There was muted clapping. Some shook their head mournfully. A few wept.
