Senator Gowen votes From Home…

AZ State Senator Gowan

Sorry to hear Senator David Gowan has the Coronavirus. I assume he was observing all of the CDC guidelines for the safety of himself and others. Anyhow, I wish him a speedy recovery. I’m also very glad to hear that he can vote safely from home during his incapacitation. What a wonderful way to ensure his continued participation in our democracy. Still, I wonder what precautions are being taken to preserve the integrity of his vote. Is there a way to verify that he is who he says he is? What kind of documentation is required when he votes? How does the legislature confirm his citizenship? Is he allowed to vote by mail? If so, does someone verify he hasn’t died before counting his ballot? Is a simple signature on a sealed envelope enough to verify his ballot’s authenticity? Or does his ballot need a witness or the signature of a Notary? If he is too sick to carry his ballot to the state capitol, can a trusted friend carry it for him? What steps are taken to make sure he doesn’t vote twice on the same issue? If he misses a couple of votes in a row, does he lose his voting privilege? Is he allowed to vote after church? What if he votes in the wrong precinct? Does the state senate get to check the devices he votes on? Can the other party claim voter fraud after he votes? Given his illness, I certainly hope he doesn’t have to stand in line for hours to vote. See how voter suppression works?
