We’re runnin’ out of candles, the crosses do we mourn,

As drivin’ by the super market, hearts are so forlorn.

How much more will it take to answer nevermore?

Make your list, your soaps, your meats and your bread,

Then make your final wishes, in case you end up dead.

Yesterday we tried to vote, lines were long and slow,

It’s easier to buy an AR at the local show.

Your register your flivver and insure it to the hilt,

But if I track your AK, your rights will surely wilt.

You made it oh so easy for him to buy his gun,

So do you want to see the little children run?

Step around the body bag, shoppin’ is a drag,

Who the hell would ever sell him that high cap mag?

Better buy some candles, before they are all gone,

As someone else gets a gun at the local pawn.

Saw it on the news tonight, Boogaloos are in the fight,

Hawaiian shirts, the flowery kind, marching for the right.

Three Percenters know not what they’re marching for.

All they want is racial war.

Proud Boys wavin’ clubs and guns,

That’s the way they get their funs.

Chaos reigns for Patriot Prayer,

Spray that stuff to scare the bear.

Someone’s comin’ for my gun,

Wave it round and make ‘em run.

Militia calls themselves Oath Keepers,

White Power flag, jeepers creepers.

Storm our Congress, blame Antifa,

View the carnage at their leisure.

No great vision stirs their souls,

They’re watchin’ how Dear Leader rolls.

Flag flies low for all to see,

On the Sixth of January.

I Never Marched

I never marched with Martin,

nor crossed the Edmond Pettis Bridge,

My people never felt,

the lash that forced bondage.

Never took a Freedom Ride,

like Goodman, Schwerner or Cheney,

Never faced a burning cross,

nor saw a Black man hanging from a tree.

Never saw the little girls,

in Birmingham to meet their fate,

Nor rode the bus with Rosa,

my truth would come too late.

Buried deep among my nevers,

I should have grieved for Medgar Evers,

Could it be that I am priveledged?

as I ignored all the hate and the slurs.

I never wore a hoodie,

With a bag of Skittles on a walk,

told I don’t belong,

my skin is not like chalk.

That pain I never knew,

still, it makes me oh so blue,

Why can’t we get along?

especially me and you!
