Floyd DeLay
Rex Thill

Military Service Record

Family lore says Floyd DeLay was a draft dodger. This record says he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War I. The record shows he served overseas and was discharged at Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas in December 1918. A record like this does not carry the weight of an official discharge. It is unsigned and apparently issued after-the-fact based on a 1919 Congressional authorization. A second document, also found on familysearch is a VA index card showing some of the same info on Floyd. I have found an internet record of the 356 Aero Squadron at Microsoft Word – 356 AERO SQ.docx (usafunithistory.com) which aligns directly with the service periods on both documents. The grade Cfr may be an abbreviation for Chauffer.

CONCLUSION: George Floyd DeLay served honorably in WWI.

Reuben Floyd DeLay’s Military Record
National Guard Record

Rex Thill’s 1931 discharge from the Montana National Guard. Note he joined at 13 and left at age 14.
