If I Could Send a Hug

If I could send a hug, I’d wrap it up real nice,

And cover it with stamps, no matter what the price.

Then I’d tell the Postman, “Handle this with care.

It ain’t the kind of mail that goes just anywhere.”

May it span the lonesome miles, and soften up the trials,

It’s been too many whiles, bereft of hugs and smiles.

A wish, a prayer, a poem, is mostly all I got,

But if I know what love is, it never is for naught.

Somewhere down the line, a hug will make it fine,

But I really would be lyin’ if I said that I weren’t cryin’

So here’s a hug for you, to help you thru the blue,

Someday you’ll rendezvous with that one so true.

  1. Knowing you, this is from the heart! Until the last lines it was good for everyday thoughts about people we love. Add the last ones and its a reminder of lost friends and family. Makes me ponder.
