Dago

Quonset huts at Marine Corps
Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA

Spent a year in Dago in a Quonset Hut,

Took a bit of sweat before I made t he cut.

Learned to aim a rifle and a solder gun,

Layin’ on the beach in the California sun.

Got to dine on SOS and coffee black as tar,

Washed a million dishes and didn’t have a car,

Often took the bus to that Tijuana town,

Where nuthin’ ever happens ‘til the sun goes down.

Went to school in Dago, flunked Su-course Seventeen,

The day they shot the President, the best we’d ever seen.

Spent a year in Dago, left in Sixty-Four,

Spent a year in Dago, back before the war.

NOTE: Actisally, I flunked Subcourse 13, Antennas and Transmission Lines the day JFK was shot.
